I am Mpumelelo Mpofu. I was at Sanyati Baptist Secondary School between 1977 and 1980 for my Form 1 through Form 4. My stay at Sanyati was enjoyable, especially the learning to play basketball for the first time. Dumisani Kidwell Nduku and Musa Kwedza introduced us to the great game.
I have vivid memories of being chosen to be the lead, Thomas Twist Moyo, in a filmmaking by the Southern Baptist Mission in 1977 entitled “School Someday”. Some might remember the film which included Farai Mafuva, as my sister “Patience”. Joseph Chibudza (now late) was my older brother Simba in the movie, Baba Z Nkomo was my “Baba”, Mrs Mafuva was “Mai”, and Dr Henry Mugabe was the schoolteacher.
Since leaving Sanyati, I went to Fletcher High, then worked for three organisations and had the opportunity to move abroad for work.
I have been in the Diaspora from 1997 to date.
I co-own and run a business with my two sons which specialises in helping children and young people and their families.
